Progressive opponents to the Selig complex that would ruin traffic coming into downtown from the Eastside are ringing the victory bell. This is all well and good, but that land is still for sale and it's still a sought-after piece of potential development gold. Something is going to happen there.For one, I hope it involves a grocery store since living on East Broad St a few years ago without a car created a conundrum for me when I wanted to buy food. I also hope it involves widening Oconee Street, because the idea of more traffic at the 5-way intersection that marks the eastern boundary of downtown makes my heart begin to palpitate.Though, an area of town that can barely keep a bar alive over its first summer might have some trouble sustaining retail outlets with what is rumored to include 100% less parking after certain proposed regulations pass. So, nothing might come of this after all. Or, maybe they'll just raze it all and build yet another giant luxury apartment complex.
