5 Things: Shangela Walks, The Oscars Crawl, Taylor Swift Surprises, Drag Race Host Posts a Thirst Trap, and Iceman Comes to Comixology Unlimited
The Oscars happened. That was a thing. The gay Superbowl was gayer than ever—just without many queer people on stage. But, Shangela did work it on the red carpet. And, speaking of Drag Race, a host of the Thai version got naked on Twitter.
1. Shangela makes history as the first queen to walk the red carpet up in drag.
My shame of seeing the amazing A Star is Born only a week before the Oscars was soothed a bit by seeing Shangela (who, along with Willam, showed up in the movie more than I was expecting) work it down the red carpet with Jennifer Lewis (who was in light boy-drag).
2. The Oscars got a little more LGBT friendly, but not really?
The only thing that wasn't straight abbot Rami Malek was hit bowtie, even though everyone tried to help him out.
So, Rami Malek won an Oscar for playing an out bisexual and HIV+ man. Olivia Colman won an Oscar for playing a lesbian queen. Neither of them* mentioned the LGBTQ+ community in their speeches. Malek also omitted any reference to the Singer controversy. Out wrote about what they think he should have said here.
Also, they're both (based on what we know) straight. Just like the year that Dallas Buyer's Club won so many awards. Straight people playing gay roles is like Oscar catnip, apparently.
This compounds the controversy about Jack Whitehall playing the first openly gay Disney character, a role that many believe should be played by a gay actor.
On a better note, bisexual actress/singer/artist/goddess Lady Gaga won the Oscar for best original song. I mean, technically, she shares it with Mark Ronson and those other people, BUT GAGA IS A TONY AWAY FROM AN EGOT!
Here's an unrelated video of Rami Malek that isn't suggestive at all:
*Colman's speech was one of the best and most sincere speeches I've seen at the Oscars.
3. Taylor Swift took part in this surprise for her friend's fiancee and it's adorable.
There isn't too much more to say about this one. Swift seems like an amazing friend to have. Alex says, "I have never felt so overwhelmed with love and exhaustion in my life. Thank you for all the messages. I can’t possibly respond to them all, but know that your love and support means the world to me. And holy shit, Taylor Swift is an angel who gives the best gifts."
Oh, and j
4. Pangina Heals in all man in this new thirst trap tweet.
5. The Iceman (2017-2018)
comeths to the ComiXology Unlimited service.
File this under New To Me, but if you were sleeping on the IceMan solo series that recently ended (for a second time), you can grab the first series' volumes for "free" if you have ComiXology Unlimited. Find them here.
